Ever set your eyes on a costume that you’ve never seen before, but you know that you absolutely have to make it? That’s a silly question to ask, I know. We all know the answer.
Usually, if it’s a character I’m unfamiliar with, I won’t fall for them just yet. But I’ll get incredibly intrigued. And by ‘intrigued’, I mean I’ll dedicate way too much time out of my cosplay time to researching this new character. But when it’s a character that I’m already familiar with, with a look I haven’t seen before, all bets are off. It’s love at first sight.
I had one of those moments yesterday. The culprit? The Emperor from Final Fantasy II’s Dawn of Souls final battle form ‘Emperor of Heaven’. I’ve always vaguely toyed with the idea of his alternate FF: Dissidia color scheme, but this one’s a different story. The only thing is, while I love the design to death, I don’t love the Emperor quite enough to shuffle around my cosplay schedule for this year, which has already gone under enough renovations (and more importantly, investment in those renovations).
Do I just chalk it up to cosplay infatuation, renew my loyalty towards Kuja and forget about Jareth the Emperor? Keep a ref art file tucked in my hard drive and visit again when I’m looking at 2011?
